Also, some In-App Purchases are not allowed to be transferred to a different device.

Using In-App Purchases for new features could also give developers the incentive to charge for minor upgrades and fixes. I would rather pay a little more upfront and know exactly what I'm getting.

Instapaper is a great example. Marco constantly improves the app, and the improvements are free to current users. This creates a lot of goodwill and positive word-of-mouth, and that leads directly to new sales.

The market for software has historically been a very small segment of the population, but the App Store has changed that, so I think it's time to challenge some of the assumptions about software economics. I think small changes in software prices can result in a significant increase in demand, and I think free upgrades can be a sustainable business model.

Re: http://readjustin.com/post/20552715732

Isn't offering it for free with IAPs just like offering a lite and a paid version, but all rolled into one? From what I've read, you get a basic tool for drawing right off the bat (lite version) and then you can pay for better tools (paid version). So instead of FiftyThree having to manage two separate apps, they can have one and just upgrade the IAPs. It makes sense to me.

That being said, I understand what you mean when you say IAPs are shady. However, I think the issue is not that it's actually suspicious and FiftyThree is trying to swindle people, but rather that it's about expectations. When you download a free app you have the expectation that it will be free, but upon opening it you find it's not if you actually want to use it. So rather than complicating things with two versions of the app, I would suggest finding a way to more clearly state that to get better functionality there are IAPs.

Re: I'm about to enter the World of Warcraft – The Decision to Play, The Guild, and the Prep

I like assassins, in the original World of Warcraft called thieves, stalkers were called after harmony.
Output is a good job ah, close attack, can stealth, can faint.
In a copy of the output could get the first good DZ. But also very easy to hang the job. . . Listening to the Phil flashback is the highlight of my day at work. (I can't stay up late enough to listen to him now.) Thanks again!

Re: My Thoughts on Brett Favre after the game in Green Bay

Just buzzing anything Phil and came upon this.
You sound like young guys, certainly younger than me. So, as "the old guy", I want to tell you something. I've watched a lot of sports in my life. All I want to say is that it's sad to me that you guys probably never have had the confident feeling that no matter where you were in sports, fan, player, tv watcher, whatever... you KNEW that the first urge out of anyone was to be sportsman-like. Gut-reaction sportsmanship.

Now I've got worse news. If you're under 35, you've never experienced freedom. If you're under 40, you were too young to remember it.

So why am I posting this stuff? Well, I can't describe either one of these things to you, so I won't try. All I can tell you is this: If you could feel gut-sportsmanship or especially REAL freedom, you would kick any a$$, take any abuse, do anything in your power to get it back.

I watched that Vikings-GB game, and the one thing equal to what turned out to be a great game was watching Favre playing with the passion and fire of a guy who just made his first successful NFL play of his career. All game long.

BTW... 40 years ago the Green Bay fans would have cheered Favre coming ON the field. Sure there would have been boos, but you would NEVER heard them over the standing cheers.

Re: My Thoughts on Brett Favre after the game in Green Bay

Perfectly put!!! Favre is my favorite athlete of all-time and I think he is one of the best football players ever. He is definitely the most fun to watch.

Re: My Thoughts on Brett Favre after the game in Green Bay

To be fair there was a lot of support and positive signs for Favre there but it should have been more. I can understand not doing it before the game, but afterwards there should have been a deafening standing ovation.

I think many of the fans were sick with the realization they made a mistake letting him go.

Re: My Thoughts on Brett Favre after the game in Green Bay

amen to that! I totally agree with you on every word..I'm glad that there is someone out there, other then me, who see how great of a football player Brett is. I have been a fan of his since he played at usm and have followed him from atlanta and then green bay, and i never would have though green bay would have treated him the way they did sunday, i have actually lost respect for green bay now. Green Bay shown him no respect Sunday and like you said they should be embarrassed by their actions. He did so much for that city and play his heart out every game he played and this is their thanks for that? I will suppose Brett though everything he does and just hopefully he & the vikings will be in the super bowl this year in miami, he deserves it!! I would love nothing more then to see Brett playing for another 5 years and I just think he might have it in him lol. :) GO BRETT!

Re: My Thoughts on Brett Favre after the game in Green Bay

I think the fans were booing Green Bay, not Favre. Thats how i took it when i was there rooting for the Favre to kick some ass. As one Packer fan said behind me, "Give us something to cheer for."

Re: Incredible, amazing, awesome Apple

Has Apple become BIG BROTHER it once intended to save us from in 1984? http://bit.ly/SgwAd It seems so looking at their keynote show

Re: I'm about to enter the World of Warcraft – The Decision to Play, The Guild, and the Prep

I did the free trial right after posting this. I played it for a few days and decided I would buy the game. I bought the Battle Chest version a week ago. My character is a Human Warlock. My main reason for the Warlock is I liked the idea of controlling a pet. I'm level 14 after my first week and I'm having a lot of fun. I'm mostly out on my own but did group for a couple quests. I'm on the Misha Realm, I'm not sure if that is the same as the server. I appreciate your offer and if its possible to play on your server, I will take you up on it.

I will be posting more about the game in the next few days.

Re: I'm about to enter the World of Warcraft – The Decision to Play, The Guild, and the Prep

Hey, did you ever try the game?
